All you have to do is point the phone's camera at an image with words on it and the app will do the rest.

Only available between Spanish and English at the moment, the Word Lens app is still in its infancy but could revolutionise translation.

It can read clearly-marked signs and writing, but struggles when it comes to stylised fonts or handwriting.

The app could be the perfect gadget for going on holiday, making deciphering bus timetables, hotel instructions and menus a breeze.
