Rumoured for ages the Canon Powershot G12 has finally burst onto the digital camera scene, rampaging around the high end of the compact market looking for Nikons to gore.
And it's certainly a dangerous opponent for the likes of the Nikon P7000, threatening its supremacy with the one thing that was missing from the G11's arsenal, Full HD video recording.
The Powershot G12 is a direct replacement for the G11 and bears the solidly built heritage that you would expect from such a thoroughbred.
Technologically it comes up trumps as well with a 10 megapixel CCD sensor and Canon's HS system with Digic 4 processor.
In terms of the cameras lenses included, you get a 5 x optical zoom lens with an 18-140mm range with a maximum aperture of F/2.8.
Overall the Canon Powershot G12 is a superbly powerful offering and one that at the very least is going to make owners of the Nikon P7000 do a double take.
