TIPA AwardThe latest Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) Awards 2008 have been announced. The TIPA awards lasts from between May 1st and March 31st, the next year. These are products which have been voted by TIPA editors as being the best in their categories for a 12 month period ending in March.

Looking at these, how many do you thing will end up with a proud space in the trophy cabinet of your home?

For me the Canon 450D would be my choice if I were to venture into the SLR level of photography. At which currently I am sad to say not yet there. Although I would like a compact camera as my ancient Casio Exilim EX4’s batteries simply do not last long enough for even a half a day on my travels. Therefore the Panasonic FX500 does look pretty interesting for me. With 10MP, 25mm wide angle Leica Lens, 5x optical zoom, touch screen 3.0″ LCD, HD video recording capabilities and HD output, it seriously makes my EX4 look like it came from the stone age.

I’ve always thought of getting a camcorder to complement my digital camera. So the Panasonic SD9 does looks like it could be the one. High-definition recording, 2.1MP stills should make it a pretty good camcorder for an amateur. Recording solely on SD/SDHC cards does mean one would have to make a sizeable investment on these memory cards though. But then these cards could also be used on the Asus Eee PC 900 which is another one on the list.
