Hitachi’s Blu-Ray Camcorders
March 6, 2008 10:29 am Gadget GuruWell before Blu-Ray won the DVD format war, Hitachi had already taken the plunge to make the first Blu-Ray DVD Camcorders. The DZ-BD7HE and the DZ-BD70E.

The DZ-BD7HE is a hybrid where you can record to either a Blu-Ray disc or a 30GB harddisk. The DZ-BD70E is just a Blu-Ray disc camcorder. Of course you still get your usual SD card slots. For a HD camcorder, the prices are not overly inhibitive with the new Sony HDR SR12 going for a similar price range(Albeit it comes with a much larger harddisk, but it has not blu-ray).
The take up of these have obviously been slow with the format war going on previously, but will more people start going for them with the higher capacity that Blu-Ray provides standard DVDs, that remains to be seen. Maybe if retailers start bundling these Blu-Ray camcorders with a PS3, record your favourite moments on Blue-Ray camcorder and watch them on your Blu-Ray player.
I think will we see more of such Blu-Ray models coming into the market in the coming year now that Blu-Ray will be the next generation DVD format. Let’s just sit back and enjoy the show, it’s up to the manufacturers to wow us with what they can offer. Now that Hitachi has stolen the march on everyone, will they beat everyone again by releasing their next gen Blu-Ray camcorders before the others even release their first?
Update:
It seems they have released their 2nd generation Blu-Ray camcorders Hitachi DZ-BD9H & DZ-HD90 in Japan.
