Flash Based Notebooks
January 4, 2008 10:26 am Gadget GuruEarlier I wrote about the Asus Eee PC being the must have gadget of 2007.
Its 2008 now and I still want one!
Now they have released some accessories for it. The one that stands out as a must have is the extra battery. Really comes in handy when you’re moving around outside and don’t have access to a power point.
At the upcoming CES exhibition next week, Asus are set to annouce the successor to the 701. Speculation is that there will be a slightly bigger screen, bigger flash drive, Windows instead of Linux and WiMAX.
For now though it seems only the 4GB model will be available in UK (Wikipedia). So you want the 8GB model like me it will have to be the US model with the US keyboard which is not an issue for me. They’ve also come up with a 2GB and 4GB Surf models which for me are a complete waste of time of I’m not going there. I await with bated breathe what ASUS will reveal at the CES. If it blows me away I’ll wait for it to arrive else I’ll probably go for the current 8GB model.
From the usual rumours that arise everytime a MacWorld comes up, it seems Apple is jumping on this flash based notebook market with their version of an ultra portable MacBook. But my guess is that it will be much more pricey than the new ASUS Eee PC. In 2 weeks time we’ll have a good idea the new offerings from both manufacturers and fingers crossed it’ll be something that will blow us away.
