Asus Eee Box

Asus Eee Box B202 Black
Following their wildly successful Eee PCs, they have now released the Mini PC version of their Eee range. The Eee Box B202. Although this Eee Box is actually more PC than the Eee PCs. But then they can’t change the name now that it’s so popular now, can they.

So let’s see what it packs inside. No optical drive as expected, for the Eee range. Atom processor, 1GB Ram, 80GB harddisk, built-in wireless, lan & sound, 4 usb ports, card reader, DVI output and the usual speaker/headphone jacks. Besides the black and white you see here, apparently they come in green and red as well.

Obviously this is not one for gaming or mutli-tasking CPU intensive work. But if you are looking for an affordable basic PC, this is a pretty good idea. Of course you still have to get a monitor, keyboard and mouse to get started. Now all we need is for them to release an Eee branded keyboard and we have a whole Asus Eee setup.

Wonder if if we’ll see an enterprising internet shop full of these babies. Hmmm I wonder…

T3 Gadget Awards 2008

Gadget Guru No Comments

The T3 Gadget Awards back! Have a look and see if you agree with their choices. Some of their choices raised an eyebrow for me though. But I did vote just for the fun of it. haha

Also it seems Garmin is sponsoring the Awards and will be giving away £1000 worth of prizes just for voting. So why not have your say?

The Flip Video Ultra Camcorder

Gadget Guru No Comments

Seems like the latest craze in the US is coming to our shores. The Flip Video Ultra camcorders.

Flip Ultra camcorder

Anyone already has one of these? These really cater to the Youtube generation as it does 60 minutes of video from its 2GB internal memory. So it’s probably not something you want to bring on a holiday or do serious video recording. Probably more Youtube videos and fun clips. And at just less than £100, it’s clearly made very affordable.

Flip Video Accessories

And look at the accessories. Underwater case, a USB cable, tripod and even an Action Mount. Hmmm with the underwater case and the action mount, does the flip not remind you of the Oregon Action Camera ATC2K? The flip has the same resolution as the ATC2K’s max resolution of 640×480. The ATC2K is expandable by SD card up to 2GB which does 1 hour of recording, same as the Flip Ultra. Both use 2xAA batteries, both use flash memory so they are tough little things. But the Flip is more expensive than the ATC2K and I just can’t see the Flip attached to a helmet can you? Although in fairness they were made with different uses in mind.

Will there be a similar impact here in the UK for the Flip?

And by the way there will be new versions of the Oregon Action Cam out soon. The ATC3K (July 2008) and the ATC5K (August 2008).

New Apple iPhone3G

Gadget Guru No Comments

Here we are, the new Apple iPhone3G. Coming to store near you on July 11th.
Apple iPhone3G

So what’s new? First thing you see is, no more metal back. It’s now plastic. And with the 16GB model they is a white version as well. Going by the specs, it is slightly thicker than it’s predecessor. What else?

Obviously 3G, improved Googles Maps with GPS (not quite TomTom or Garmin sat nav but an improvement nonetheless), new 3rd party applications available new through itunes, supports Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, more languages (for the worldwide release later this year) and some other stuff.

Guess it’s trying to push it’s way into the business market now with the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support. But we’ll see.

O2 have also announced their tariffs for the new iPhone. They now have Pay & Go option although details have yet to be released. The Pay Monthly tariffs range from free to £99 for the 8GB and £159 for the 16GB.

So who’s getting one?

Where does that leave the iPod Touch which has no 3G and it costs £100 more. And I’m guessing you might have to pay for the new 2.0 update.
